Towards a Healthier Indonesia: Raising Excise and Taxes on Cigarettes, Reducing Cigarette Consumption, Towards Quality Public Health
FINDINGS:
- Increases in cigarette excise taxes will reduce smoking prevalence.
- Increases in cigarette excise taxes and prices substantially reduce teenage cigarette consumption.
- Higher cigarette excise taxes will benefit the lowest income quintile (20%) in terms of better health and improved financial security.
- Increasing cigarette excise tax will contribute to achieving the third goal of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a healthy and prosperous life.
- Countries that implement the FCTC and increase tobacco taxes experience a significant reduction in smoking prevalence compared to Indonesia.
