Towards a Healthier Indonesia: Raising Excise and Taxes on Cigarettes, Reducing Cigarette Consumption, Towards Quality Public Health

FINDINGS:

  1. Increases in cigarette excise taxes will reduce smoking prevalence.
  2. Increases in cigarette excise taxes and prices substantially reduce teenage cigarette consumption.
  3. Higher cigarette excise taxes will benefit the lowest income quintile (20%) in terms of better health and improved financial security.
  4. Increasing cigarette excise tax will contribute to achieving the third goal of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a healthy and prosperous life.
  5. Countries that implement the FCTC and increase tobacco taxes experience a significant reduction in smoking prevalence compared to Indonesia.
